Grand Marques (Bolli et al) usually carry a grand price. But if you shop around, like we have here, and don't mind not having the same bottle normally found on the Grand Prix podium at your next celebration, you'll get at least the same quality at a considerably reduced price. In fact, why wait for a celebration? The French drink this for breakfast... probably.
At Virgin Wines we believe in the small guy. We know that if we look hard enough we'll find the David that is capable of slaying the Goliath. As so it is with this house. Charles de Villenfin is a Moet smasher, make no mistake. You don't have to pay for all of that fancy marketing either, so a decent price as jungle juice goes.
Another classic Champagne, perhaps more famous as the city boys choice for celebrating huge bonuses and major takeovers than anything else. Why not grab a few bottles and make believe that for you, a lottery win would just be a nice bit of extra pocket money.
Taittinger is one of the older Champagne houses and what's more, it has a higher proportion of Chardonnay in its non-vintage. This gives a fizz that is lighter, fruitier and more elegant than many.
'The Widow', as Veuve Clicquot is affectionately known, is one of the best-known and most enjoyed Champagnes. Full-bodied and richly flavoured, it is one of the finest Champagnes available.
It's funny how when it comes to Champagne, many people stick to the names they've heard of (and pay for the privilege). But if you're one of the canny ones, who let their tastebuds be their guide, instead of some fancy advertising, you'll love this. Made by a small family-run Champagne house, this bubbly has won a heap of accolades, but isn't yet well known enough to become a wallet buster. Enjoy it at this price while you can.
One of the lighter, creamier Champagnes, in our book this is ideal for decadent breakfasts. And we do like to encourage our customers to be as decadent as possible - life's for living, after all.
Special occasions deserve special Champagne, and this revered classic will always fit the bill. Classy, with enough glamour and glitz to stop any temperamental diva-wannabes from throwing a tantrum and produced only during the finest vintages. Scented with ambrosial honey and almonds, and full of those toasted brioche and apricot flavours you only find in good Champagne, and of course, wonderful tiny bubbles. A list style at a C list price but don't shake and spray it. Just drink it.
The legendary status of Moet isn't tarnished at all by knocking out this delicious Rosé, a style considered in polite circles to be a bit frivolous. We don't give a damn as it's a beautiful bottle of wine easily as good as the white stuff for any celebration. Strawberries and cream effervescing gentle on the tongue. Lovely.
