We found Herve and his Fabre wines last year in Mendoza and bought his entire stock of Malbec. Clearly you lot love his wines as much as we do because you promptly bought them all. So we thought you'd appreciate trying the equally delicious Merlot. Wild berries, vanilla and coffee with a gorgeous velvety allure, this is massively classy gear and it seems we are just about the only ones on to it - yet.
Agustinos is the pet project of a stupendously wealthy Chilean gazillionaire, who set out to make super premium wines, using his capital, international winemaking expertise and the best equipment and grapes money can buy. By getting in on the ground floor, we have bought it at a price that is just, well, silly for the quality. Buy now before prices go up!
If you think that there is nothing you enjoy more than ripping open a packet of fruit pastilles and scoffing the lot, then think again. Here we have the liquid equivalent with a little alcohol in it. Whether you delight in this at home with your mates over a nice leg of lamb on a Sunday, the scrumptious strawberry and blackcurrant fruit will have you needing to 'unwrap' another immediately.
These guys are on the shining path, having been totally enlightened by Alvaro Espinosa in all things organic and sustainable. Walking round these vineyards is like visiting a zoological park, it is so teeming with wildlife! The wines, like the environment are about equilibrium.
So great to ride the surf with the new-wave of Chilean wine makers, in far-flung regions that attract pioneers like a gold-rush. And the lovely Constanza is just such a surfer, making exceptional wines in the Bio Bio, so marginal it hurts.
When I first discovered Capcanes I was astonished to find that they weren't certified organic. Everything was right. Virtually no use of chemicals and a passion to produce wines as naturally as possible. I suggested that they apply for certification - so they did. But it takes time and, until they get the certificate, they still have to make a living. So here is, quite possibly, the last chance to buy this delicious, deep, complex beauty before the organic stamp goes on the label and the price goes up.
This Merlot has the distinction of being rated 4 Stars from the day our customers first tasted it - quite an achievement for a wine costing less than £7 a bottle. Fruity, friendly and far too drinkable, it is also full bodied enough to be a serious food wine. For a stunning combination serve our Monos Locos Sauvignon Blanc before the meal and this Merlot when the food gets on the table.
Another great Single Vineyard parcel from the effervescent Mr Grimley. Coonawarra is essentially the Bordeaux of Oz. A slightly cooler climate than the rest of the country gives traditional Bordeaux blends like this a lovely herbal finish. Think super-charged Claret, without the hefty price tag.
Getting top-flight fruit from the McLaren Vale, itself one of the best viticultural areas in all Oz, is a knack. A knack that only our man Steve Grimley has mastered. He keeps the best growers very close to him and we keep him even closer to us.
We found this astonishing bargain earlier this year. A dark barrel hall containing a long-forgotten vintage that on tasting turned out to be a proper belter. Wine Buyers live for moments like these. Especially when they are followed by a cheeky bid for the lot being accepted.
